The increasing trend of caesarean section in various countries by the WHO considered dangerous to the health of women. Especially if done without a strong medical indication.

“Many women are misunderstood. They consider a cesarean delivery is safer than vaginal delivery,” said Dr.A.Metin Gulmezoglu, researchers from the WHO is conducting a survey of caesarean section in Asia.

He explains, a cesarean is major surgery that is only an option when the safety of mother and fetus at risk. For example, if labor is naturally long-standing but no progress whatsoever.

Other conditions are considered to do a cesarean include pelvic abnormalities, pelvic circumference smaller than the size of the fetus, maternal age is too old, abnormal placental location, size of the baby is too large (more than 4 kg), the fetus or infant disorders twins.

Gulmezoglu added that pregnant women who gave birth by cesarean without medical indication of increased risk of intensive treatment, require blood transfusions because of blood loss that occurs in a cesarean section is twice as much than a normal delivery, and the risk of death. Although death from cesarean section are rare, but the risk remains higher than in natural childbirth.

Research conducted in the U.S. experts also show that babies born by Caesarean greater risk experiencing respiratory problems because of drugs used during the operation the baby’s body absorbed.

If there is no medical indication, better delivery through the normal way, a much more secure, quick process, and the faster healing time. But many women are less aware of this fact.
